Here is the review of Johnny Gaddaar at Indiatimes. Johnny Gaddaar released this Friday. Although the film is being hailed as a great thriller, the timing of the release may have been wrongly chosen. It should have been released right around Eid so that it could have cashed in on the holiday making crowd.

Here’s a first look at the sets of Saawariya, undoubtedly one of the most awaited movies of 2007. Saawriya has been directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and is being produced by Sony Pictures India.

This movie marks Sony Pictures’ foray into Bollywood which is the world’s largest movie industry in terms of the number of movies (big or small budget) it turns up in a year.  Incidentally, it is also the debut vehicle for star kids : Ranvir Kapoor, son of Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh, and Sonam who is the daughter of Anil Kapoor.

The film is slated for an Eid/Diwali release.

    Om Shanti Om looks promising

Well, this morning I saw the episode of Koffee with Karan with Shahrukh Khan and Farah Khan and Deepika Padukone. They discussed many things with Om Shanti Om (directed by Farah Khan and starring Shahrukh Khan) being one of them.

Now the premise of the movie, as discussed by the director and star as well as by (me) seeing the trailer of the movie, is that Shahrukh plays an movie star in the 1970s and he returns later in 2007 as an incarnation. The movie looks interesting and I can’t wait to get to the movie theater to watch it as soon as it releases.

Plagiarism has reached it’s peak with this, I must say. After I reported previously about Chak De India, now it seems another big movie releasing this Friday is also inspired.

Yep, I’m talking about the Sajid Khan directed and Akshay Kumar, Fardeen Khan and Riteish Deshmukh starrer Heyy Babyy.

Ram Gopal Varma’s Aag: A Preview

Amitabh Bachchan as Babban in Ramu's Aag (Source: HT)

So with all the Hype regarding Chak De India subsiding (after it’s release on the 11th of August), we have another biggie lined up for release.

It is none other than our very own Ramu’s (Ram Gopal Varma) next big film starring Amitabh Bachchan and Ajay Devgan in lead roles. The film is now titled, Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag (was previously called, Ram Gopal Varma Ki Sholay). The characters in the movie were renamed due to a legal dispute with the Sippy’s over character names and the movie name as well.

So now here’s a look at the main characters in the new movie:

    • Gabbar Singh becomes Babban (played by Amitabh Bachchan)
    • Veeru becomes, well it remains, Veeru (played by Ajay Devgan)
    • Jai becomes, well it remains, Jai (played by newcomer Prashant Raaj)
    • Radha becomes Durga (played by Sushmita Sen)
    • and last but not the least, Basanti becomes Ghungroo (played by Nisha Kothari)

So there you have it. What started off as Sholay has turned out to be a completely different film albeit with the same story and characters. It would be interesting to see Amitabh Bachchan playing Babban and giving Gabbar Singh his own definition. Best of Luck to you Mr. Bachchan. I know you can pull this off with ease. As for Ajay Devgan, I can’t think of any other actor as versatile as Ajay to be playing Veeru, a part immortalized by our Garam Dharam (Dharmendra).

The movie is slated for the last friday of August as stated by Ram Gopal Varma. Let’s hope it makes it to the theaters by that time since I am waiting impatiently to watch it.
