Here is the review of Johnny Gaddaar at Indiatimes. Johnny Gaddaar released this Friday. Although the film is being hailed as a great thriller, the timing of the release may have been wrongly chosen. It should have been released right around Eid so that it could have cashed in on the holiday making crowd.

Here’s a first look at the sets of Saawariya, undoubtedly one of the most awaited movies of 2007. Saawriya has been directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and is being produced by Sony Pictures India.

This movie marks Sony Pictures’ foray into Bollywood which is the world’s largest movie industry in terms of the number of movies (big or small budget) it turns up in a year.  Incidentally, it is also the debut vehicle for star kids : Ranvir Kapoor, son of Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh, and Sonam who is the daughter of Anil Kapoor.

The film is slated for an Eid/Diwali release.

Movie Preview: Darling

by SuperRaJJ on Sep.09, 2007, under Entertainment, India, Mobile Reviews

Ram Gopal Varma has always been a rebel director within the Bollywood ranks. His knack for making ‘different’ movies is well known to everybody. Unfazed by the (unfair) debacle of his last venture Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag, he has made another movie which is called Darling. This movie tries to (somehow) combine two genres namely, Comedy and Horror into one.

The movie is about a protagonist who is married and gets involved with his secretary who while their affair is going on, gets killed/dies. So begins the story of the movie. Watch it for a new twist and an interesting idea.

The movie stars Fardeen Khan in the lead, with Isha Koppikar playing his homely wife and Esha Deol playing the secretary turned ghost of the movie.

Watch out for it. It’s coming soon.

Why are Critics panning Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag?

by SuperRaJJ on Sep.02, 2007, under Entertainment, My Musings

The critics have been generously heaping insult after insult on the new release of last Friday, Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag. It seems they have armed themselves with enough munition that Bush used to topple Saddam in Iraq!

Well, whatever they say, watch the movie to see Amitabh Bachchan in his first full fledged negative role. This movie is a director’s vision which should not be super imposed on the masterpiece called Sholay. In recent times there have been numerous remakes of extremely well made classics in Hollywood too. The critics there do not discourage the remake-rs from remaking a movie.

Watch this movie for what it is. Another, gangster drama based somewhat on the pattern of Sholay. It is NOT Sholay and should not be watched as such.

If you watch it as an independent movie, you can see it without any problems. Never mind the minor similarities to the original.

By the way, did you know Sholay was itself inspired from an earlier Raj Khosla movie starring ‘Garam’ Dharmendra and Vinod Khanna as ‘Jabbar Singh’ called “Mera Gaon Mera Desh”?

Well never mind the similar sounding names, Jabbar and Gabbar. If you look at it this way, the greatest classic of all time produced by Bollywood was itself inspired from the earlier movie and in part from the Hollywood Classic, “The Magnificient Seven” which was in turn based on “The Seven Samurai”!

Let people exist. Let them express their creativity. You can easily decide after reading this article that creativity is inspired most of the time.

So, The Akshay Kumar-Fardeen Khan-Riteish Deshmukh starrer, Heyy Babyy which has been directed by Sajid Khan is a big success and hit with the masses and the classes alike.

The film is a modified version of the Hollywood Hit, “Three Men and a Baby”,  no matter how much the director may deny it. But in the end what hits the Bull’s Eye matters the most.

Om Shanti Om looks promising

Well, this morning I saw the episode of Koffee with Karan with Shahrukh Khan and Farah Khan and Deepika Padukone. They discussed many things with Om Shanti Om (directed by Farah Khan and starring Shahrukh Khan) being one of them.

Now the premise of the movie, as discussed by the director and star as well as by (me) seeing the trailer of the movie, is that Shahrukh plays an movie star in the 1970s and he returns later in 2007 as an incarnation. The movie looks interesting and I can’t wait to get to the movie theater to watch it as soon as it releases.

Chak De India remains Multiplex fodder

by SuperRaJJ on Aug.19, 2007, under Box Office, Entertainment, News

As reported by me before, Chak De India has picked up business but it remains restricted to the multiplexes. The film ain’t making any progress as far as single screens are concerned.

So, this one’s not a bomb atleast. It is a good movie and I hope it becomes a multiplex hit at the least. Not for Yash Raj Films. Hell, no! It should be a hit for the sake of Shahrukh Khan, for the sake of Shimit Amin and most importantly for Hockey.

One must commend Shahrukh for taking such a big risk and doing a movie on Hockey with no leading lady opposite him.

Plagiarism has reached it’s peak with this, I must say. After I reported previously about Chak De India, now it seems another big movie releasing this Friday is also inspired.

Yep, I’m talking about the Sajid Khan directed and Akshay Kumar, Fardeen Khan and Riteish Deshmukh starrer Heyy Babyy.

Some behind the scene facts about the SRK starrer, Chak De India

 Shahrukh Khan

Even as Yash Raj Films previous two releases, Ta Ra Rum Pum and Jhoom Barabar Jhoom tanked at the box office, they get ready to release their new release Chak De India starring Bollywood Superstar, Shah Rukh Khan.

It is an interesting movie (although it is based on the Kurt Russell starrer, Miracle) and I found this article that tells us about some behind the scene facts of the movie:

SRK started training for his role for the coach with India Women’s Hockey Coach. He read and learnt about hockey and understood the commands of the whistles in order to get into the character.
.
.
.
The opening scene of the film required SRK to fall during a speedy hockey sequence. Seeing how crucial the scene was SRK decided to do the stunt himself. Being shot on a Hockey stadium it gave no scope for any harnesses or any mat, however SRK still insisted on doing the shot himself. Due to the multiple camera coverage and continuity he had to perform the stunt 8 times which he did with exact continuity and the shot remains in the film.
