The Shahid Kapoor and Vidya Balan starrer, Kismat Konnection, opened well this weekend mostly at multiplexes. The film’s 1st week collections stood at Rs.20.60 crores+
Interestingly, the second half of the movie (with the actress, Vidya Balan) makes the film look like a clone of the brilliant Lage Raho Munnabhai.

Dhamaal, Darling below expectations

The opening of Dhamaal and Darling were below the expected 70-80% gross that was expected from them. Dhamaal is a comic caper and Darling is a new kind of genre for Bollywood. The cricket match between India and England may have contributed to the less than expected turnout.
Chak De India remains Multiplex fodder

As reported by me before, Chak De India has picked up business but it remains restricted to the multiplexes. The film ain’t making any progress as far as single screens are concerned.
So, this one’s not a bomb atleast. It is a good movie and I hope it becomes a multiplex hit at the least. Not for Yash Raj Films. Hell, no! It should be a hit for the sake of Shahrukh Khan, for the sake of Shimit Amin and most importantly for Hockey.
One must commend Shahrukh for taking such a big risk and doing a movie on Hockey with no leading lady opposite him.
Chak De India picks up greatly, on its way to be a hit

Well, Shahrukh Khan has done it. He has done what was expected of him. He has revived general interest in the ailing Indian National Sport of Hockey. It moves our interest towards the national sport away from the heavily monetized sport of Cricket (albeit temporarily
).
Well, the movie may not be very good with it’s script but it has Shahrukh Khan in it and the direction is good. The movie is the story of the underdogs (The Indian Women’s Hockey Team) achieving what was never expected from them.
It is a movie about team spirit. It is a movie about working for a cause together. Like I said in my previously written Box Office report, I wish SRK all the best. I just hope this movie makes a great return.
Best of Luck, SRK. Best of Luck, our National Sport: Hockey.

Salman starrer Partner is the first true super hit movie of this year

Well, there we have it! Salman Bhaiya has done it again. Sallu bhai has delivered the first true super hit movie of the year. (I know, Aap Kaa Surroor is a Big Hit but it started losing business after the initial opening it received.)
To aid him in his Bollywood Boxoffice conquest this time, was seasoned Govinda. He may have left the stage for politics but it really feels good to see him back in action.

About the movie, this one is a rehashed desi version of our very own Will Smith starrer, Hitch. Salman plays the role inspired from Dr. Hitch
The story goes like this: Govinda has fallen for his boss, the very beautiful and gorgeous looking, Katrina Kaif. The trouble is, this match seems quite far fetched and add to the mix our Raja Bhaiya’s shyness and inability to express his love to her. Enter our macho-man, Salman Bhaiya (as Prem). He helps Govinda in wooing his ladylove and falls in love with Lara.
So you can call it a typical David Dhawan film complete with all the confusions and rehashes and mindless entertainment. It is ringing the cash registers all over India and in the end, that is all that matters!

This year has so far been quite below expectations what with two big-budget Yash Raj movies failing at the box office and our capped-caper, Himesh saving the box office from a total slump with his romantic-thriller, Aap Kaa Surroor.
The year had opened well with the Abhishek Bachchan starrer, Guru. But after that flops started lining up for the cinemas.
