Is “Don’t Phunk With My Heart” Inspired from Ye Mera Dil?

by SuperRaJJ on Apr.27, 2010, under Entertainment, My Musings

Over the past couple of months, whenever I heard Black Eyed Peas’ Don’t Phunk With My Heart I felt it sounded familiar. Finally I came to realize the source of the similarity. It seems that Black Eyed Peas’ song is “inspired” from Asha Bhosle’s chart-topper, “Ye Mera Dil” from the Amitabh Bachchan starrer, “DON” (1978).

At first I thought it is just a coincidence but then I noticed that the song’s entire opening notes are similar to Ye Mera Dil’s opening.

Now, if you are music expert, you can realize that this cannot be a mere coincidence.

Anyway, I am not complaining. Just noting that inspiration exists not only in Bollywood but also in Hollywood or generically in other parts of the world as well.

You are welcome to correct me if you think I am wrong.

So, it looks like Bachchan junior is really going places. Abhishek recently recorded a rap song with Wyclef Jean. Reportedly, it is Wyclef himself who asked for Abhishek to sing the Hindi lyrics of the song which is a Hollywood-Bollywood tribute song for Hindi Cinema and Bachchan Senior.

The song was recorded by Aadesh Srivastav and Wyclef in Miami. Wyclef Jean came to Miami from New York especially to record the song with Abhishek Bachchan who is shooting in Miami for Karan Johar’s Dostana.

Hollywood in 2007: Hits that Missed

Well, I know it sounds difficult but I think I can put together a couple of films that were supposed to make a lot of money for the makers but didn’t exactly make their mark.

One of the prominent movie which could be at the top of the list come to think of it is the Nicole Kidman-Daniel Craig starrer, The Golden Compass. Before you come to any conclusions, I must say that it is not the movie’s fault at all. Nor are the stars to be blamed. It is the studio (NewLine Cinema) which should have released this movie a little later like in Summer of 2008?  That should have helped get it the recognition it needed.

Another movie making this list is AVPR: Alien vs Predator: Requiem. This movie should have been made with a little better story and it could do with a bit of old school techniques like what the original Alien used, courtesy Ridley Scott!

TGC is reminiscent of the Polar Express (featuring Tom Hanks) which was released at the same time around but atleast it was related with the Christmas season.

Anyway the studios should be a little more careful the next time when they place their movies for release. I hope they are and that they bring us some more action packed stuff to digest.

Although 2007 has been a great turn around benchmark year for Hollywood with great hits raining right, left and center this Summer. It was indeed one of the most profitable years for the boys in Hollywood starting with Spider-Man 3 and Transformers and ending on a high note this summer.

Let’s hope 2008 turns out even better what with, The Incredible Hulk lined up for release this summer.

Salman starrer Partner is the first true super hit movie of this year

Well, there we have it! Salman Bhaiya has done it again. Sallu bhai has delivered the first true super hit movie of the year. (I know, Aap Kaa Surroor is a Big Hit but it started losing business after the initial opening it received.)

To aid him in his Bollywood Boxoffice conquest this time, was seasoned Govinda. He may have left the stage for politics but it really feels good to see him back in action.

Salman and Govinda in Partner

About the movie, this one is a rehashed desi version of our very own Will Smith starrer, Hitch. Salman plays the role inspired from Dr. Hitch :-)

The story goes like this: Govinda has fallen for his boss, the very beautiful and gorgeous looking, Katrina Kaif. The trouble is, this match seems quite far fetched and add to the mix our Raja Bhaiya’s shyness and inability to express his love to her. Enter our macho-man, Salman Bhaiya (as Prem). He helps Govinda in wooing his ladylove and falls in love with Lara.

So you can call it a typical David Dhawan film complete with all the confusions and rehashes and mindless entertainment. It is ringing the cash registers all over India and in the end, that is all that matters!

Himesh

This year has so far been quite below expectations what with two big-budget Yash Raj movies failing at the box office and our capped-caper, Himesh saving the box office from a total slump with his romantic-thriller, Aap Kaa Surroor.

The year had opened well with the Abhishek Bachchan starrer, Guru. But after that flops started lining up for the cinemas.

It seems our filmmakers are certainly short on original ideas. They don’t seem to be ashamed of getting inspired by (read copying from) foreign movies.
