I have finally managed to purchase one of the coolest phones around with some of the most wanted features ever to grace a Smartphone.

The Nokia N82 Black Edition

The Nokia N82 Black Edition

On the night of 20th August 2008, I visited the nearby Haddad Telecom store (an authorized Nokia dealership chain) and after much contemplation and comparison between the Nokia N95 8GB and the Nokia N82, I decided to go for the latter (when I say much contemplation and blah blah blah, please understand that I made the store executive go crazy!).

There were two three four factors (ooooh!!!! the factor keep on increasing and I better stop at this) that influenced my decision:

  1. The choice of expanding your memory later on was available, even though you would be missing out on the massive 8GB of the N95. It is reported that the N82 will easily gobble an 8GB mem card.
  2. The price of the black edition of N82 was close to that of the N95-1 (initial release with 2GB memory and memcard slot).
  3. The candybar shape of the N82 was also an influencing factor since I, personally, hate slider phones. They are not my forte’.
  4. The camera’s Xenon FLASH. The flash was the deciding factor. It would let me take full advantage of the 5MP Carl Zeiss Camera that came with the phone.

Initially I was hesitant to go for the N82 because of the color. This, of course, was way back in Jan-Feb 2008. At that time only the white colored N82 was available on the market. Nokia came out with the Black Edition later on to address (perhaps) hesitant consumers like me (and thankfully so).

If you are new and would like to decide between a N95, a N95 8GB and a N82, you have to decide on the factors that I described above. Technically speaking, the N95 8GB and the N82 siblings are identical in all aspects. Except one. The form factor. N95 8GB, like it’s predecessor (the N95-1), is a slider phone while N82 is a candy bar shaped phone. Plus the N82 has the best flash ever built into a mobile while the N95 has 8 Gigs of space plus a widescreen. The N95 8GB has a screen size of 2.8″ while the N82 has the standard size of 2.4″ from one of the most successful phone ever, the N73.

Coming to think of that, I have N73 music edition as well which I will be selling off later now that I have N82 (finally!).

Thanks to Nokia for bringing out the black color. The phone looks better in black than in white. The keypad is a little new for me since I am used to the great keypad on the N73i.

Apart from this, the phone’s good. And, I’m Loving It! (not Mac dear, the Nok is here)
