The critics have been generously heaping insult after insult on the new release of last Friday, Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag. It seems they have armed themselves with enough munition that Bush used to topple Saddam in Iraq!

Well, whatever they say, watch the movie to see Amitabh Bachchan in his first full fledged negative role. This movie is a director’s vision which should not be super imposed on the masterpiece called Sholay. In recent times there have been numerous remakes of extremely well made classics in Hollywood too. The critics there do not discourage the remake-rs from remaking a movie.

Watch this movie for what it is. Another, gangster drama based somewhat on the pattern of Sholay. It is NOT Sholay and should not be watched as such.

If you watch it as an independent movie, you can see it without any problems. Never mind the minor similarities to the original.

By the way, did you know Sholay was itself inspired from an earlier Raj Khosla movie starring ‘Garam’ Dharmendra and Vinod Khanna as ‘Jabbar Singh’ called “Mera Gaon Mera Desh”?

Well never mind the similar sounding names, Jabbar and Gabbar. If you look at it this way, the greatest classic of all time produced by Bollywood was itself inspired from the earlier movie and in part from the Hollywood Classic, “The Magnificient Seven” which was in turn based on “The Seven Samurai”!

Let people exist. Let them express their creativity. You can easily decide after reading this article that creativity is inspired most of the time.

Well said. It really looks like all critics are against RGV’s work whether it is AAG or Nishabd or what ever.
People should be given freedom to showcase theire works. Critisism is definitely required, but not to this degree of negativeness.

sreedhar, actually critics believe that every movie coming out of bollywood should follow certain formulas based on the theme. if a Farhan Akhtar ventures out to make a remake of Don or a Ramu (Ram Gopal Varma) ventures out to make Sholay, it’s their individual visions that they would want to implement with an existing story.
Creativity should be given a chance as always. If this does not happen, we will be forcing our filmmakers to revert to their copycat ways.
