GOOGLE

Did you purchase a new domain? Or, do you have a domain lying around in your box but can’t get a decent email for yourself? Will it help if you can get a good reliable and free service to come your rescue?

Well, then Google Apps is just the service you need. Google Apps is a new service from Google that was launched last year. It comes in Standard Edition and Premier Edition.

The Standard Edition is free and comes with a 2 GB mailbox with a 10 MB attachment limit for each of your users plus Google Docs & Spreadsheets and Talk and free webpages for your domain. You even have a Calendar Application to manage all your group appointments. All this is free. But, Google keeps control on virtually all of the features of the site. Right from displaying their ads to your users to showing their name in almost everyplace or space on the site they can.

The Premier Edition is of course chargeable and it comes with complete customizations. The mailboxes are of 10GBs with unlimited attachments size per every email account that you have on them, plus all the features offered with the Standard Edition. The mailbox is also ad-free.

A very good product indeed. If you don’t have your own domain, they even let you register a new domain with Google acting as a registrar. This is good as it lets you manage all your services in one place.

The verdict: I think it is good. I liked the service, plain and simple. You can go for the Standard Edition which is free. If you are a big corporate, then you can have the guys at Google customize everything according to your needs and thereby eliminating unnecessary overheads of maintaining separate servers for your company emails and lost bandwidth for you. If you already have a domain, you need to verify it before you can start using it with Google Apps. The procedure is simple and is explained right after you signup.

So what are you waiting for? Go and signup.
